The Woburn resident has won the first $4 million grand prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s new “$4,000,000 Cash Doubler” fast ticket game, lottery officials said on Friday.
Fernandes picked the cash option for his prize, receiving a one-time payment of $2.6 million before taxes. He told lottery authorities that the money he won will be used to buy a house.
The winning ticket was purchased at Mobil, 386 Main Street, Melrose.
The retailer receives a $40,000 incentive for selling this ticket.
The “$4,000,000 Cash Doubler” instant ticket also includes two additional $4 million instant grand prize drawings.
