Man Discovered Dead In Chicago River On North Side Identified By Officials

Officials have identified the man who was discovered dead in the Chicago River on Saturday.

Around 7:20 a.m., police responded to a marine distress call on North Virginia Avenue in the Budlong Woods neighborhood (5200 block). Police said the call was to the north branch of the Chicago River near River Park on the city’s North Side.

The Chicago Fire Department recovered the 52-year-old man’s body from the water.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Ashraf Mahomed as the victim.

It wasn’t immediately clear how the man died.

Authorities did not immediately give any details.
