A suburban Chicago couple has been accused of abusing an 11-year-old child for several years after the boy was discovered by a business owner bleeding and beaten in only his underwear, according to officials.
The Fox Lake Police Department said it got a report of a youngster who appeared battered and naked around 9:30 a.m. Friday near Nippersink Boulevard and Grand Avenue. Officers claimed a neighborhood business employee reported seeing a child with blood on his face and numerous welts, bruises, and scratches on his body.
After arriving at the scene, police said the young boy was immediately taken into protective custody and sent to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for medical evaluation.
Officers arrived at the boy’s residence in the 30 block of East Grand Avenue, where they interviewed his 34-year-old mother, Pricilla Marshall, and finally arrested her.
Police said two more children inside the home, ages 1 and 2, as well as two boys at school at the time, were brought into protective care and given a medical evaluation.
“During the course of the investigation, investigators determined that the 11-year-old male had allegedly been subjected to abuse by Marshall and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Cody R. Marion, over multiple years,” the department said in a release. “The investigation revealed the victim was allegedly struck with household objects, had dish soap poured into his mouth and ears, and was not permitted to attend school.”
Marshall and Marion were charged with felony aggravated battery against a child, misdemeanor domestic battery inflicting bodily harm and physical contact, and endangering a child’s life or health.
The children were eventually placed in the “temporary care of an extended family member,” authorities said.
Marion is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing Monday afternoon, while Marshall will appear before a judge the following day
