A federal judge in Texas sentenced a Mexican citizen to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to traffic firearms from the United States into Mexico.
Martín Edgar Garza Pacheco, 42, from Melchor Múzquiz, Coahuila, has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for his involvement in a gun trafficking network, according to the US Department of Justice.
“A Mexican citizen was sentenced in federal court in Del Rio to 84 months in prison for conspiracy to traffic firearms,” according to the Justice Department.
The statement was issued by Justin R. Simmons, the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas, who noted that the defendant was apprehended at the Eagle Pass port of entry as part of an investigation into the smuggling of weapons from the United States into Mexico.
Garza Pacheco and two accomplices, Shiddartha Salinas Ávila and Víctor Ulysses Ybarra-Daniels, allegedly obtained 36 guns from San Antonio retailers.
According to US investigators, the network’s “modus operandi” included Garza Pacheco driving from Mexico to San Antonio via the Eagle Pass port of entry, collecting the weapons north of the border, and then smuggling the firearms back into Mexico concealed in his truck.
He was arrested on April 22, 2023, and charged with conspiracy to smuggle weapons. He later pleaded guilty on August 21, 2023.
According to a statement announcing Garza Pacheco’s sentencing, Ybarra-Daniels was sentenced to 48 months in federal prison on October 8, and Salinas was sentenced to 42 months on November 3, 2025.
