An Ohio woman was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to steal $812 in groceries at a Publix store in The Villages.
Jennifer Lynn Collins, 39, of West Jefferson, Ohio, and another woman entered the store at Southern Trace Plaza early Monday evening, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, grabbed a shopping cart, and pushed it toward the exit doors without paying for their purchases. The woman abandoned the cart and fled when a store manager confronted them.
A manager spotted one of the women returning to the beige Buick SUV in the parking lot. When a deputy approached the vehicle, Collins ducked inside the SUV to conceal. The deputy requested her to exit the vehicle. Collins was recognized by the store manager due to her “distinctive tattoos.”
She was arrested on a felony allegation of theft. She was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center.
