Akron Man Sentenced For Rape Of Hotel Worker

An Akron man was sentenced on Tuesday to 20 to 25 years in prison for raping a housekeeper at a Springfield Red Roof Inn in 2024.

Cornelius Rogers, 24, has also been designated a Tier III sex offender, according to Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich. Rogers was sentenced after pleading guilty in January to one count of rape and one count of kidnapping.

“The survivor in this case showed remarkable courage in coming forward and confronting her attacker in court,” Kolkovich said in a statement. “Her strength is why justice was served today.”

According to prosecutors, Rogers pushed his way into a Red Roof Inn room where the cleaner was working in December 2024 and violently abused and raped her.

Prosecutors reported that surveillance cameras at a Walmart across the street from the inn captured the attack.

Rogers also pled guilty to one count of stealing and one count of criminal trespassing in a separate case, Kolkovich said.
