An incident in the Jefferson City Target parking lot serves as a reminder to keep your doors locked.
On Tuesday, the Jefferson City Police Department received a report of a man attempting to enter at least six vehicles in the store’s parking lot. The man was able to successfully enter up to three vehicles, triggering one alarm.

A witness told police that he recorded a video of the man entering an SUV. When the witness asked if the vehicle was his, the man said that he assumed it was his mother’s. The witness reportedly told police that the man, subsequently identified as Michael Hunter, 31, of Jefferson City, abandoned a bicycle and property on a hill near Target.
Officers contacted Hunter, who denied having entered any vehicles. However, a search of his premises revealed a stack of debit and credit cards, as well as the victims’ insurance cards.
Hunter was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and theft. He’s being jailed under a $10,000 bail.
