The Maryland Lottery reports that a $4 million Mega Millions ticket was sold in Colesville for the drawing on March 10.
The winning ticket was purchased at Giant Food, 13490 New Hampshire Avenue. The Montgomery County retailer will be awarded a $2,500 bonus for selling the second-tier winning ticket.
The ticket matched the first five numbers drawn (16, 21, 30, 35, and 65), but not the Mega Ball of 7. The base prize for matching five numbers is $1 million, but the ticket contained a 4x multiplier, bringing the total to $4 million. A player from Illinois won the drawing’s $555 million prize.
Lottery officials encourage winners to sign the back of their tickets and store them in a safe place. Prizes greater than $25,000 must be claimed at Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore, either in person by appointment or by mail. Tickets to draw games must be claimed within 182 days of the drawing.
