A 68-year-old man was arrested after being captured on video abusing a dog.

Gerald Gallegos was arrested by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office after being caught on video beating a dog several times.

After beating the dog, he lifts it by its collar and swings it a few feet in the air.

Footage of the abuse was shared on social media, attracting the attention of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

When the video surfaced, the Sheriff’s Office assigned deputies and detectives to investigate the incident, according to a statement.

Investigators identified and apprehended the 68-year-old.

“Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our community,” said El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “We will continue to act swiftly when animals are harmed and hold offenders accountable.”

Gallegos is facing allegations of cruelty to non-livestock animals, his third felony violation.

The El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility placed him on a bond of $35,000.
