An Indianapolis man was arrested today after a homeowner returned to his Cannon Royal Drive residence Wednesday evening to discover a stranger staying inside. Christopher Lee Sickels, 55, was arrested on March 11, 2026, and charged with burglary following the incident at the Shark Key community.
The incident occurred about 7:14 p.m., when the homeowner entered the residence and confronted Sickels. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Sickels promptly fled the scene on foot.
Deputies arrived in the area and began a search, eventually finding him a short distance away.
Investigators determined that the homeowner did not know Sickels and had never granted him permission to access or stay on the property. Once inside, deputies discovered that Sickels’ things and cabinets had been “ravaged through” during his time there.
Records suggest that this is not the suspect’s first encounter with Florida law enforcement this year.
Sickels was previously arrested by the Key West Police Department in January on charges of grand theft of a handgun. Following the current incident, Sickels was taken to the local jail for processing.
