A man convicted of brutally killing his girlfriend three years ago was sentenced to life in prison plus 15 years on Monday, according to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
Nocomus Harris was convicted of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the killing of Carlotta Wilson by a jury in April, according to the district attorney’s office. According to a news release, on Monday, a Shelby County Criminal Court judge “imposed the maximum sentence, agreeing with Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Henning’s argument for the harshest penalty under the law.”
The DA’s office stated that the life sentence was for first-degree murder, and the 15-year sentence was for tampering with evidence.
According to the DA’s office, Harris killed his girlfriend, Wilson, in April 2022 by slicing her throat and leaving a belt around her neck. The horrible sight left a puddle of blood inside her Parkway Village condominium, according to the agency.
Wilson was babysitting a one-year-old boy when she died, according to the district attorney’s office. The organization said that “thankfully,” the infant was uninjured.
The DA’s office stated that Wilson’s brother discovered her body and phoned 911. Harris had fled in Wilson’s automobile by this point, according to the agency, and discarded her phone somewhere along a Missouri highway.
According to the DA’s office, Harris attempted to hide Wilson’s automobile on a dirt road near the Tennessee-Missouri line.
