A police pursuit from Mississippi into Memphis ended after a man rammed several patrol cars, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
MPD reported that Davarius Johnson led Walls Police officers on a chase into Memphis early Monday morning. Officers from Walls said they were investigating a domestic incident when Johnson crashed his 2005 Nissan Altima into one of the officer’s cars.
Police claimed Johnson fled, and cops were after him. The chase from Walls to Memphis lasted approximately 16 miles, with lights and sirens flashing the entire time.
According to MPD, the chase concluded at Peebles and Lotus, where Johnson again hit an officer’s car. Authorities reported that Johnson’s Altima struck the officer in the leg as he got out of his car to arrest him.
Officers ultimately arrested Johnson. During his interview with investigators, MPD said Johnson stated he was sitting in his car when he noticed a light behind him, which scared him into fleeing. According to MPD, Johnson said that when he identified the cars chasing him as police, he pulled over and raised his hands.
Johnson caused more than $2,500 worth of damage to Walls Police vehicles, according to MPD. He was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, vandalism worth $2,500 to $10,000, and intentionally escaping arrest in a car.
