One Person Detained For Driving While Intoxicated After Weaving In And Out Of Lanes In Indiana

An Evansville man was detained early Sunday for driving while intoxicated on U.S. Highway 41.

According to the Evansville Police Department, an officer was on patrol at U.S. 41 and Virginia Street around 1:15 a.m. when he saw a black 2004 Pontiac Vibe swerving between lanes. The officer made a traffic stop near U.S. 41 and Lincoln Avenue.

Police identified the driver as Profaite Eloi, 32, from Evansville. Officers reported smelling alcohol on Eloi, who claimed he had not consumed any before driving. Authorities also noted that he lacked a driver’s license and evidence of insurance.

According to police, Eloi failed a field sobriety test. During a portable breath test, he registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.307, which is significantly higher than the legal limit of 0.08.

Eloi was brought to the Vanderburgh County Jail and charged with many counts, including operating while intoxicated and without a license.
