Investigators in Middlesex County announced on Monday that human remains were discovered buried under a garage floor in Tyngsborough following a tip about a potential murder in the town.
At a press conference Monday, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said the investigation began on March 10 when a man called the Nashua, New Hampshire, Police Department to tell that a friend had told him he murdered someone a year ago and buried them in the floors.
The companion was recognized by authorities as Shawn Sullivan. Police said they saw a strange patch in his garage floor and began digging, only to discover human remains.
Investigators suspect the remains belong to Jill Kloppenburg, a Lowell resident who has been missing since January of last year. Although the authorities have been unable to definitely identify the remains, Sullivan has been charged with murder.
Authorities expect Sullivan to face additional charges as the investigation progresses.
