A Summit County jury found McDonald guilty of the following charges:

  • One count of felonious assault, a second degree felony
  • One count of strangulation, a second degree felony
  • One count of strangulation, a third degree felony
  • Two counts of domestic violence, both fourth degree felonies

In April 2025, the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office stated that Akron Police responded to a call from the survivor’s relative.

The relative had received images and videos of the survivor being assaulted by McDonald and called police to have them check on her.

Officers and EMS found the survivor in a safe spot and took her to the hospital, where she was treated for many injuries consistent with strangling and being struck multiple times.

In May 2025, the prosecutor’s office stated that the survivor confessed to more incidents of abuse that had occurred since February, when another relative discovered her with bruising on her body.

Domestic violence cases can be especially hard to prosecute due to the private nature of the offenses and the intense emotional and psychological impact on survivors, including the understandable fear that comes with cooperating with an investigation.

I want to thank the survivor for her courage; the EMTs, nurses, and doctors that provided her with medical care; and the Akron Police Department and my Assistant Prosecutors for ensuring this dangerous offender goes away for a long time.
