Unlucky duo arrested for stealing more than 300 scratch-off lottery tickets in store robbery, cops say

A Georgia couple is accused of stealing hundreds of scratch-off lottery tickets from a convenience store in January but was arrested by Atlanta police.

Officers stopped Martell Johnson, 28, and Gabrielle Murray, 31, last week in connection with a heist earlier this year.

Surveillance footage from the robbery shows two people dressed in black with their faces concealed slipping into the business at 4 a.m. on January 5 and plundering the cashier’s desk.

Atlanta Police said the robbers grabbed around $5,000 in cash, hundreds of lottery tickets, and numerous packs of cigarettes.

Security footage also captured one of the suspects visiting a different business on the same day to cash some of the stolen tickets.

Authorities identified Johnson and Murray after an investigation, leading to their stop on March 10.

Bodycam footage showed the pair being escorted from the vehicle individually, with Murray asking authorities, “Why am I being arrested?”

During the traffic stop, police said they found roughly 315 lottery tickets in the vehicle.

Johnson and Murray were both charged with second-degree burglary and felony theft by taking. Murray was released on a $45,000 bond, but Johnson remained in custody.
