According to Chicago police, three men were knifed during a brawl at the Grant Park skate park in the Loop on Tuesday evening. One of the men faces charges.
Around 5:15 p.m., the group began arguing, but the situation escalated when one of them took out a “sharp object” and stabbed the other two guys, according to a CPD statement. An officer on the site said that evidence techs were finding a “machete” from the skate park.
Northwestern Memorial Hospital admitted a 38-year-old male in severe condition, following several stab wounds to his chest, flank, and buttocks. The second victim, a 28-year-old guy who will be 29 this week, refused medical care for an arm laceration, according to authorities.
According to authorities, the two victims disarmed the third man before stabbing him multiple times in the leg, arm, and head. The 30-year-old suspect, who has a lengthy criminal record, largely for retail theft, was in critical condition at Stroger Hospital, police said. Officials have not yet made his identity known.
Violent situations are not uncommon at the skate park. A man received a 25-year prison sentence last year for killing a homeless man who was sleeping next to a sculpture near the park.
In June 2023, authorities charged a guy for stabbing and badly injuring a lady at a skate park. Joshua Shaw is still in Cook County jail on an attempted murder charge in that case.
An armed guy targeting persons at and near the skate park created a crime pattern that remained unsolved in the summer of 2022. Five juveniles faced charges earlier in 2022 for assaulting and robbing a man at the skate park.
In September 2021, a fight at the skate park resulted in the shooting of a 26-year-old man. The previous summer, a 15-year-old boy at the program received a grazing wound to his head.
