Mother taken into custody after child discovered attempting to hang on power lines in Pennsylvania

A woman has been taken into custody after a child was discovered on a home’s roof attempting to grab nearby power lines, authorities said.

Police were dispatched to the 200 block of North Walnut Street after reports of a child on top of a house. By the time authorities arrived, the child had left the roof.

According to investigators, the drop from the roof to the ground was around 20 feet, and the severe winds at the time exacerbated the potential of major injury.

Later, officers found two children alone in the house. Authorities reported that the children were trapped inside, unable to escape or seek help in an emergency. One of the children has been diagnosed with autism, authorities said.

Amanda Rivera, 38, the children’s mother, has been charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children.

The investigation is underway.
