A former correctional officer in southwestern Wisconsin was apprehended as part of an investigation into allegations of misconduct while in service.
According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, Adam Rice had worked with the agency for roughly four years when team members raised concerns regarding identifying documents that did not follow established processes.
Officials initiated an internal assessment but also requested that the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office conduct an external investigation to assure impartiality, which resulted in Rice’s arrest on the following charges:
- Felony Misconduct in Public Office—Acting Inconsistent With Duty
- Felony Misconduct in Public Office—Falsifying Records/Statements
- Misdemeanor Theft of up to $2,500 in Movable Property
- Misdemeanor Possession of Illegally Obtained Prescription Medicine
Rice was detained on Thursday and is currently awaiting a bond hearing, as the case is being reviewed.
