Police are looking into reports that fentanyl was discovered inside Barbie doll packages sold at a discount store.
Cargo Largo Security notified the Independence Police Department (IPD) at 10:08 a.m. on Saturday about a strange powder material found in the packaging of a Barbie doll, according to a department social media post.
Police identified the substance as fentanyl and quickly began an inquiry with the store to establish how many dolls were sold.
During the inquiry, investigators discovered that five shipments were sold. IPD located all five units and took them into jail.
The research revealed that the Barbie dolls themselves had not been corrupted. Fentanyl was found taped into the back package of the dolls.
Police do not suspect that the infected units were sent to other stores.
Police said no injuries have been reported.
The incident is still under investigation.
