He was found guilty of trafficking cocaine, possessing cocaine, possessing methamphetamine, possessing a controlled substance, and unauthorized possession of a firearm by a serious violent criminal. Following the trial, Gaines pleaded guilty to a habitual offender sentence increase.

The charges stem from a May 2025 investigation in which police from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s SWAT squad, Violent Crimes Task Force, and Violence Reduction Squad executed a search warrant at Gaines’ apartment on the city’s far east side, near the 3900 block of Breen Drive.

During the search, authorities discovered drug-related goods such as digital scales and tools needed to make crack cocaine.

Officers also confiscated 7.08 grams of fentanyl, 65.29 grams of cocaine, 10.7 grams of methamphetamine, 23.84 grams of synthetic drugs known as Spice, 29.04 kilos of marijuana, and 13.81 grams of narcotic tablets. In addition, two guns and a considerable sum of money were confiscated from the home.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said the sentencing underscores law enforcement’s continuous efforts to target those involved in drug trafficking and illegal firearm ownership.

“This 29-year sentence is the result of our continued partnership with law enforcement to target and prosecute individuals who exploit others for financial gain,” Mears told reporters.

Gaines will serve his time in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
