The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office announced that Charles Cannon’s case in the fatal shooting of Brandon Montrell in 2023 has been concluded.
The resolution was made in open court on Monday (March 23). Cannon’s formal sentencing will be issued on April 6.
Cannon was found guilty of many felony charges, including severe criminal damage to property and obstruction of justice. He consented to spend 15 years in the Department of Corrections.
The event started with a gunfight in a Rouses parking lot. According to the district attorney’s office, a co-defendant shot at the cannon, igniting a gun war across the parking lot.
Montrell, who was not involved in the conflict, was hit and died in the crossfire.
The victim’s family was consulted throughout the process and agreed on the outcome, according to the district attorney’s office.
