Two suspected gang members were taken into custody earlier this week after federal agents discovered numerous guns and other items in their Southwest Side home.
Julian Torres, 19, and Brandon Osorio, 29, were detained and charged with possessing a machine gun on Monday, March 23, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois.
On that day, authorities executed a search warrant at Torres and Osorio’s home in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, discovering a short-barrel rifle and ten handguns, one of which had an extended magazine, according to officials.
Authorities say 20 machine gun conversion devices were also discovered. The conversion devices enable conventional weapons to function as machine guns, firing several rounds with a single trigger stroke. Various ammo and weapons accessories were also confiscated.
Torres and Osorio are alleged members of a street gang that traffics firearms, cocaine, and other illegal items, according to their detention hearing on Friday. It is claimed that the gang utilized Torres and Osorio’s home as a base for its criminal operations.
A judge ordered Torres and Osorio to be held until trial.
