A fugitive sex offender wanted in Nevada is back in custody after four years on the run, according to Nevada State Police officials.
The U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Preston Jakes on March 13, 2026, in Long Beach, California, as part of a collaborative effort with the Nevada State Police Division of Parole and Probation.
Authorities stated that he was a fugitive in Nevada due to a parole violation.
Jakes was convicted of attempted sexual assault following unauthorized sexual contact with a juvenile on July 26, 2013, and sentenced to 96 to 240 months in prison.
He was later granted release on April 12, 2021, but police claim he vanished from monitoring in April 2022.
On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, officials from the Nevada State Police Division of Parole and Probation extradited Jakes from California back to Nevada.
He is currently being held at the Clark County Jail.
