Juvenile apprehended in Reseda school fight that left 12-year-old girl dead

An arrest has been made in the case of a 12-year-old girl who died as a result of a school fight in Reseda, authorities told Eyewitness News Thursday.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the individual arrested is a minor. There were no further details revealed.

The incident happened last month at Reseda Charter High School. Khimberly Zavaleta’s family claims she was hit in the head with a water bottle and subsequently had a brain injury. She then died in the hospital.

The family has since filed a claim against the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The parents of 12-year-old Khimberly Zavaleta said they had reported numerous cases of bullying involving both Khimberly and her sister, Sharon, to the school weeks before the horrific incident.
