An incarcerated person who walked away from Growlersburg Conservation CDCR Jose Zamora CB7867 Camp in El Dorado County was arrested minutes later on April 1, 2026.
During a head count at 7:40 a.m., camp personnel learned that camp participant Jose F. Zamora had gone missing. Staff quickly started an emergency count, which confirmed Zamora was not at the camp. Agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were tasked with locating and apprehending Zamora.
Minutes later, camp staff arrested Zamora near the camp without incident. He was returned to custody and will be held in a prison. His case will be sent to the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office for review of escape charges.
Zamora, 40, was transferred from Los Angeles County on August 25, 2025. He received a two-year sentence for second-degree robbery. He has been confined at the Growlersburg Conservation Camp in El Dorado County since December 29, 2025.
Since 1977, 99 percent of incarcerated adults who have fled or walked away from an adult facility, camp, in-state contract bed, or community rehabilitative program placement have been apprehended.
