A murder suspect has been apprehended after police say a man’s body was discovered inside the trunk of a car in Phoenix.
According to Phoenix Police, on March 28, an officer “obtained credible information” that a man was slain around 24th and Van Buren streets, and the victim’s body was placed inside the trunk of a car and driven away from the site.
The vehicle believed to be involved in the murder was discovered nearby, with a body inside the trunk. The victim was identified as Derek Standridge, 44.
What they’re saying: “Detectives pursued multiple leads and determined that the homicide occurred in a hotel room near 24th Street and Van Buren Street on March 26, 2026,” Sgt. Rob Scherer said. “Detectives also identified the suspect as 26 year old Charlie Carldwell.”
Carldwell was discovered on April 1 and arrested. He was arrested and faces several counts, including murder. Police believe no other suspects were involved in the incident.
The motivation for the murder is unknown.
