Following a two-day manhunt, NYPD detectives and US Marshals apprehended 18-year-old Matthew Rodriguez in Pennsylvania, the police reported Friday. Rodriguez is suspected of being involved in a shooting in Brooklyn on Wednesday that killed a 7-month-old.
Brooklyn shooting leaves baby dead
On April 1, a shooting occurred in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg area.
According to police, 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore was in a stroller carried by her mother at a crossroads when two suspects approached on a moped and one of them began shooting. According to authorities, the moped’s passenger fired two bullets before the two drove away.
The baby’s parents fled to a neighboring convenience shop for safety. This is when they realized Kaori had been shot. Her parents hurried her to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The baby’s 2-year-old brother was in the stroller seat beside her. He was also grazed by a gunshot but is expected to recover.
Suspected shooter arrested, charged
Earlier this week, the NYPD detained Amuri Greene, whom they suspect to be the shooter. Greene faces murder, attempted murder, and other charges. He is currently hospitalized. Greene was detained after his motorbike crashed while fleeing the scene of the incident on Wednesday.
Rodriguez is believed to have driven the moped.
Rodriguez faces pending charges. Rodriguez was nabbed somewhere in Pennsylvania, although it’s unclear where.
While authorities have not revealed the motivation for the shooting, they believe it was gang-related.
