A 28-year-old Toledo man was apprehended Saturday after police said he led officers on a brief vehicle chase in west Toledo before fleeing to his apartment, striking and firing at a teenage girl.
At 1:54 a.m., officers arrived to the 6000 block of Morningside Drive for a suspected threat involving a firearm or other weapon when they saw a car matching the description of the person involved, according to an incident report. When police attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Thomas Cavanaugh, 28, of Toledo, they said he escaped. He then drove up to the curb of his apartment building in the 6100 block of Northtowne Court and ran inside.
Police say he then attacked and kicked a 17-year-old girl inside before firing a revolver at her. According to the report, the girl was later transported to a neighboring hospital before being released. Police claimed the gun was found in the apartment’s parking lot.
Cavanaugh was arrested and charged with two charges of felonious assault with a weapon, possessing a firearm when disabled, and failing to obey a police officer’s direction or signal to run or flee.
