Two Men Killed In High-speed Crash On Colorado River Along Arizona-california Border

Two men were killed Tuesday in a boat crash on the Colorado River along the Arizona-California border, authorities said.

The 25-foot watercraft was moving at great speed when it collided with the rocky shoreline on the Arizona side of the river at approximately 4:50 p.m., according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

The boat ended up in the reeds at the California shoreline north of Lake Havasu, near the Topock Gorge stretch of the Colorado River.

The San Bernardino County and Lake Havasu City fire units came to the area and began treating the two patients.

One man died at the scene, and the other died after being flown to a hospital.

They were eventually identified as Noah Welch (33) and James Rutherford Jr. (53). Both men lived in California.

The inquiry into the fatal boat crash is underway.
