A Vanceboro man has been apprehended after a reported robbery at a laundromat in New Bern, according to police.
The New Bern Police Department stated officers arrived at Broad Street Laundry on Broad Street at 7:24 a.m. in response to an armed robbery. Authorities say the man stole money from an employee and escaped on foot.
Officers came in minutes and took a description of the suspect. About 15 minutes later, officers discovered a man in the Craven Terrace neighborhood who matched the description.
Police identified the suspect as Michael Jenkins, 57, of Vanceboro. Jenkins was determined to be the perpetrator of the heist, according to investigators. Although he was not armed at the time of his arrest, officers stated they recovered money in the denominations allegedly stolen.
Jenkins is accused of common law robbery and assault on a female.
He was brought before a court and detained at the Craven County Detention Facility without bond. His first court appearance is planned for April 9 at 9:00 a.m. in Craven County District Court.
