Student Dies After Shooting Herself in Valley Forge High School Cafeteria

A student has died after she shot herself in the cafeteria at Valley Forge High School on Monday afternoon, according to Parma Schools.

According to Parma Police Public Information Officer Scott Traxler, the event involved only one gunshot and one student. There are no active threats.

Around 2:10 p.m., law police responded to the school facility at 9999 Independence Blvd.

Law officers and firefighters reacted immediately and are still on the scene.

As part of safety precautions, students were relocated to the authorized reunification site at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C).

First responders transported the female student to a neighboring hospital, where she died.

The school stated that the incident has been contained and that there is no ongoing threat to children or staff.

Normandy High and Valley Forge High Schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the district.

The inquiry is being handled by the Parma Heights Police Department.
