A traffic stop in Ocala resulted in the arrest of a convicted felon and the recovery of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and other narcotics, including what authorities said were roughly 4,850 potentially deadly doses of fentanyl.
The arrest occurred on the morning of April 17, 2026, in the 1200 block of Northeast 3rd Avenue.
According to officials, Detective Sergeant I. Minck stopped a blue Chevy SUV for a traffic violation and ordered the driver, 52-year-old Curtis Lamar Spruce, to get out.
Investigators said Spruce resisted repeated requests and made suspicious gestures inside the SUV.
Authorities said a patrol car was trapped in the SUV to keep Spruce from fleeing, and a high-risk traffic stop was conducted before he was apprehended.
During a search consequent to arrest, authorities stated deputies uncovered a bag tucked in Spruce’s underwear that contained the following:
- 109 grams of methamphetamine
- 14 grams of cocaine
- 9.7 grams of fentanyl
- Percocet
According to investigators, a further 16.2 grams of cocaine dropped from Spruce’s jeans during the search.
Authorities stated that as little as 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be dangerous, implying that the amount confiscated might equal around 4,850 potentially fatal dosages.
Investigators also observed that the stop took place near a church on Northeast 4th Avenue, which contributed to some of the accusations brought.
Spruce, a convicted felon with prior convictions for robbery with a pistol or lethal weapon, burglary, grand theft auto, drug offenses, and escaping law police, now faces many counts, including:
- Trafficking methamphetamine
- Trafficking cocaine
- Trafficking fentanyl
- Possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a place of worship
- Possession of a vehicle to traffic a controlled substance
- Tampering with evidence
- Possession or use of drug equipment
- Resisting without violence
The investigation is underway.
