2 men apprehended after SWAT search uncovers drugs and illegal guns

Two Sardinia residents were taken into custody after police executed a search warrant on Wednesday.

Roy Smith, 64, and Elijah Smith, 25, were arrested during an investigation by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit.

The arrests took place on Wednesday, when the Erie County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team executed a court-authorized search warrant at a residence on Van Slyke Road. That is where police discovered suspected drugs, illegal guns, and paraphernalia.

According to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, both guys were found inside the apartment and apprehended without incident.

During the search, deputies found suspected methamphetamine, diazepam, buprenorphine naloxone films, hydrocodone pills, and drug paraphernalia. Authorities also seized other guns that the defendants were suspected to have illegally held.

The Smiths were taken to the Erie County Holding Center, where they are being kept awaiting arraignment.

Roy Smith was charged with four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, three charges of illegal possession of a weapon, and three counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Elijah Smith was charged with four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, three charges of illegal possession of a weapon, and three counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff Garcia stated that the probe was spurred by community reports regarding unusual behavior in the region. When we receive reports of suspicious activities in our neighborhoods, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office takes them seriously,” Garcia said in a statement announcing the charges. “Such complaints led to this investigation and these arrests.”
