16-year-old Boy Found Fatally Shot In Abandoned, Stolen Car In South Chicago

Detectives are still looking for witnesses and video evidence after a 16-year-old boy was discovered shot in the head in the backseat of a stolen automobile riddled with bullets in South Chicago on Tuesday night.

A security guard approached a police officer to inform them of a seemingly abandoned Hyundai Elantra, which had been reported stolen and was still running in the 8600 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive at 8:30 p.m., according to the police report.

According to the report, officers found the unidentified youngster in the back seat, shot in the head. The car had “multiple bullet strikes.”

The boy was pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Officers received a report of firearms fired and criminal damage to property in the 8600 block of South Drexel Avenue. When police arrived, they discovered numerous vehicles damaged by gunshots and a “large amount of blood on the street,” according to the report.

There have been no arrests made.

Detectives from Area 2 are conducting an investigation.
