ASP seizes 300 LBS of illegal drugs and arrests two from Memphis

Arkansas State Police say troopers confiscated over 300 pounds of illegal drugs and detained two Memphis people after two separate traffic stops within hours last week.

ASP reported that on June 19, just before 2 a.m., troopers stopped a 2025 Toyota Camry for a traffic violation on Interstate 30 eastbound near the 65-mile marker in Clark County.

During the search, troopers said they uncovered 13 cartons containing more than 150 bottles of illicit promethazine.

According to the FDA, promethazine cough syrup is known on the illegal street market as “Green Drink” or “Purple Drink.”

The driver of the Camry, Latarash Davis, 48, and the passenger, Derrick Wells, 25, both from Memphis, were arrested and brought to the Clark County Detention Center.

They were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and unlawful sale and delivery of depressants or stimulants.

Later that day, about 11:45 a.m., troopers pulled over a 2025 GMC Acadia on I-40 eastbound near the Arkansas/Oklahoma state line for a traffic violation.

According to ASP, troopers discovered more than 177 pounds of methamphetamine in duffel bags and boxes when searching the SUV.

The driver, Bryan Huckeba, 41, and the passenger, James Gilley, 47, both from Georgia, were arrested and taken to Crawford County Detention Center.

Both males were arrested on felony accusations of trafficking controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“These seizures underscore the persistent threat posed by drug trafficking along Arkansas highways and the vigilance of Arkansas State Police Troopers in combating the flow of illegal narcotics,” said ASP Col. Mike Hagar. “These seizures not only disrupt the supply of dangerous drugs but also serve as a warning to traffickers that Arkansas State Police enforcement remains highly active and coordinated in its interdiction efforts.”
