Two men were detained early Friday after an alert citizen reported suspicious activity at a commercial construction site, which resulted in the recovery of stolen equipment and a trailer.
According to the Mont Belvieu Police Department, officers arrived at the 9200 block of Edgewood at 12:43 a.m. on April 24, 2026, after receiving a report of suspicious behavior at a huge construction site.
Officers began hunting for a U-Haul truck seen leaving the area with a flatbed trailer. A deputy from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office helped locate the car, which authorities stopped near Eagle Drive and Lakes of Champions Blvd.
Investigators established that the flatbed trailer, as well as a significant piece of construction equipment discovered inside the U-Haul truck, was taken from the job site.
Officials added that further inspection at the location revealed the destruction of additional equipment, which appeared to be the result of theft attempts.
Authorities identified the suspects as Fernando Ibarra, 26, and Alejandro Escuadra, 28, both of Houston.
Both guys were detained and charged with felony larceny, possessing a controlled narcotic, and possessing marijuana.
Officials commended the reporting citizen and cooperation among law enforcement agencies with preventing more losses.
