A Cuban truck driver has been discovered dead more than a week after he disappeared while delivering a shipment of vehicles from Georgia to Florida, according to the FBI.
On Wednesday, federal authorities announced that Alejandro Jacomino Gonzalez, 41, had been identified as the body located in “Coastal Georgia.” Authorities have not disclosed any details about the location or cause of death.
On April 16, Gonzalez picked up several vehicles from the Port of Brunswick in Georgia and drove south to his drop-off spot in Miami. The FBI stated that was the last time anyone heard from him.
Investigators said Gonzalez stopped at a rest area in Brevard County, just east of Orlando, at 1:21 a.m. on April 17 and rested for several hours. Later that morning, GPS data showed the vehicle driving south for one exit before turning north to Jacksonville. Gonzalez soon became inaccessible, and the truck was reported missing, according to the FBI.
The truck was discovered later that day near Port Wentworth, Georgia.
According to officials, Gonzalez was not in the truck, and numerous automobiles were missing. Three of the vehicles have already been discovered in Florida, while the whereabouts of the others are unclear.
Authorities are requesting anybody with information regarding Gonzalez’s abduction and death to call the FBI at 1-800-225-5324, go to a local FBI office or American consulate, or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
