Man Detained in Tampa Homicide Investigation after Shooting

A man was detained in a Tampa homicide investigation following a recent Central Florida shooting.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office charged the 24-year-old male with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting near the junction of Progress Boulevard and South 82nd Street in Tampa.

Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at 4:19 p.m. When deputies arrived, they located Terrel Ferrell, 24, who had sustained an upper-body gunshot wound. He had been riding as a passenger in a vehicle with a female driver and a child in the backseat.

Detectives discovered that the car stopped short to chat with the suspect before opening fire. In an attempt to flee, the driver sped away and collided with a motorized bike, causing minor injuries. The vehicle continued to a neighboring Thornton’s convenience shop to seek assistance.

Ferrell was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

During the inquiry, detectives identified the shooter as 24-year-old Dayjon Clarke. Detectives found Clarke earlier this month on the 100 block of Logarto Circle West in Lutz.

“This violent act took a young man’s life and endangered innocent lives, including a child,” stated Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Let this serve as a message: if you commit a violent crime in our community, we will find you, and you will face justice.”

He was charged with first-degree murder, premeditated firearm homicide, shooting at or into a vehicle, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Local law enforcement officials say the inquiry is still ongoing.
