The wife of suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez was arrested on Monday on counts of conspiracy to conduct racketeering, one of the same accusations her husband is facing in connection with an alleged multimillion-dollar illegal gambling operation.
According to online prison records, Robin Lynn Severance Lopez, 50, was booked into Lake County Jail on two charges: conspiracy to commit racketeering and conspiracy to utilize or invest racketeering funds.
Less than four weeks have passed since her husband’s arrest on conspiracy and racketeering charges.
On Monday evening, HSI Tampa verified Lopez’s wife’s arrest in a post on X that included a shaky video of Robin being carried in handcuffs to a waiting patrol vehicle.
Who is Robin Lynn Severance Lopez?
HSI Tampa identified Robin Lynn Severance Lopez as the “estranged wife” of suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez. Public records show that the two married in 2007 in St. Cloud, Florida. It is unclear how long they had been estranged and why.
Why was Marcos Lopez arrested? What is he accused of?
Authorities suspect suspended Sheriff Marcos Lopez of overseeing a vast illegal gambling operation in Central Florida. He’s also accused of using his position as sheriff to derail the inquiry and alleviate worries about the putative business, according to earlier reports.
A court imposed a $1 million bond on Mr. Lopez, allocating $500,000 for each charge.
According to officials, Lopez and four others reportedly managed an illegal gaming business that generated more than $21.6 million in revenue.
Investigators claim Lopez continued to further the criminal organization’s interests after being elected as Osceola County Sheriff in November 2020, and he received a percentage of the illicit gambling revenues as payment for his efforts.
