A man was detained on Friday for allegedly assaulting three women “in the Lafitte Greenway area” of Mid-City in June, according to New Orleans police.
Demond Jackson, 47, was detained in the 500 block of Moss Street after patrol officers saw him lying on the ground behind a USPS office.
Officers recognized Jackson as a wanted person for failing to appear in court. They later discovered he was wanted in connection with multiple battery charges that had occurred this month.
At 11:39 p.m. on June 4, police reported an attack in the 600 block of N. Carrollton Avenue. Another woman was reportedly assaulted hours later, at 9:27 a.m. on Sunday near Palm Drive in City Park.
A third assault occurred weeks later, on June 17, in the 400 block of N. Cortez Street.
Authorities suspect Jackson was behind all three attacks.
Last week, an anonymous Reddit user reported getting hit in the face on the Greenway near Cortez on June 17. Police have not confirmed whether the post was related to the most recent attack.
Jackson was taken to Orleans Parish Jail and appeared in Criminal District Magistrate Court on Saturday on a charge of simple battery, according to online court records. His bond amount was set at $5,000.
