A Leesburg woman has been detained as the third suspect in the 2024 fatal shooting of an elderly man at a Citgo gas station.
On Thursday, the Leesburg Police Department successfully located and apprehended the third suspect in connection with the shooting on September 28, 2024, at the Citgo gas station at 2101 W Main St. in Leesburg.
Jasmine Tynise Gainey, 21, was arrested following a rigorous search by Leesburg police investigators to identify the latest suspect in the killing of Clarence Ervin, 87. Gainey is charged with first-degree premeditated homicide and aggravated violence with a handgun on a person over the age of 65.
On the afternoon of September 28, 2024, the LPD responded to a shooting at Citgo. Upon arrival, they discovered three suspects approaching a vehicle. Two suspects stayed on the passenger side, while one approached Ervin, who was sitting inside. A confrontation erupted, and Ervin was shot.
The suspects fled the area on foot. Officers offered first aid to Ervin, who was then transported to the hospital and operated on that night. However, on October 6, police learned that he had died as a result of his injuries.
Following Ervin’s death, 22-year-old Kenneth Dalon Bailey of Leesburg and 22-year-old Craig Anthony Stevenson Jr. of Leesburg were arrested on the evening of October 11 and charged with capital murder and aggravated battery (firearm) on a person over 65. Bailey was eventually sentenced to 45 years after being convicted of murder in March.
In addition, Gainey has been arrested multiple times before. She stole $50 from a vape shop counter in January, got into a physical altercation with a customer at a Wendy’s drive-thru in December 2024, and brawled behind the counter with another McDonald’s employee in May 2022.
