IMPD investigators and a criminal analyzer located Harris. After watching and observing Harris at his home, police requested and secured a search warrant to locate the firearms in Harris’ possession.

On Wednesday, while watching Harris’ home, police noticed Chanita Dawson and Harris leaving in a vehicle. IMPD Northwest District Violence Reduction Team officers pulled over the car. During the stop, officers discovered a firearm under the driver’s seat. Investigators deemed Harris and Dawson as significant violent criminals and jailed them. They issued a search warrant for the car.

During the car search, detectives discovered three handguns. They had managed to seize one of the firearms.

Detectives returned to Harris’ home. After executing the search warrant, they discovered the following items:

  • A Kevlar vest.
  • 360.8 grams (just over three-quarters of a pound) of suspected cocaine.
  • 8.7 grams (nearly two-tenths of a pound) of fentanyl.
  • 49 grams (about a tenth of a pound) of marijuana.
  • A scale.

Dawson and Harris were both detained and face preliminary charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a major violent criminal, cocaine selling, and narcotic possession.
