A man was recently arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the fatal shooting in Central Florida.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the defendant and victim got into an argument in the breezeway of an apartment complex on the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle in Brandon, near Tampa. During the altercation, the suspect shot the victim and fled the location.
The victim, Darien Lamont Henry, 25, was later brought to Brandon Regional Hospital and pronounced dead.
Detectives learned that Henry and the suspect had a verbal altercation. During the argument, the suspect pulled out a pistol and shot Henry in the upper torso.
Detectives used investigative techniques to positively identify the culprit as 32-year-old Delfeayo McCoy. Hours after the incident, detectives found McCoy at a residence in Tampa’s 4900 block of 80th Street South.
The charges against him included second-degree murder with a firearm and felony possession of a firearm.
“While this arrest will bring some measure of accountability, it cannot bring back the life that was lost. These senseless acts of violence must stop,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our detectives’ efforts to quickly locate and arrest this suspect demonstrate their commitment to justice and keeping our community safe.”
Local law enforcement reports that this is an ongoing inquiry.
