12-year-old hit, killed riding bicycle

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Benjamin was riding his bicycle along the sidewalk on the 11900 block of Suburban Street after playing with pals.

Surveillance video, according to officials, showed a dog chasing the 12-year-old, causing him to lose control of his bike and tumble on the road. A black vehicle then struck Benjamin and fled the scene.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office states that the car was a black Chrysler 300 with front-end damage.

Some nearby residents informed authorities that they witnessed the speeding vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. They claimed to have seen bicycle and car components before coming across the child.

According to the sheriff’s office, the residents got out, cared for the boy, and performed CPR until paramedics arrived in an attempt to rescue him. However, when authorities got on the scene, there was no sign of life, and the infant was declared dead.

What you can do: Crime Stoppers may pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the perpetrators’ location and arrest. Information can be reported by calling 713-222-TIPS (8477), going online to www.crimestoppers.org, or using the Crime Stoppers mobile app. All tipsters stay anonymous. Only tips and calls made directly to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward. At the time of this post, all cases/warrants were active and could potentially change. Crime Stoppers of Houston does not make any legal representations that this is the most current legal situation.
