According to police reports, surveillance video captured Harris, 40, entering into the 7-Eleven at 11:06 p.m., leaving seconds later, and Ghaffar left the business shortly after.

According to police investigations, surveillance footage also shows a confrontation after 11:07 p.m. outside the door to a McDonald’s at 1650 Washington Ave., as well as a fight that resulted in Harris falling.

Police officers discovered Harris bleeding on the ground along Washington Avenue, near Lincoln Road, and attempted to assist him with gauze until fire rescue professionals came, according to records.

Ghaffar claimed he was in pain when Harris hit him in the head with a steel thermos. Harris, who is homeless, admitted to stealing sandwiches and drinks worth $17.45 from the 7-Eleven, according to police reports.

According to police, before fire rescue personnel carried Harris to Jackson Memorial Hospital, a police officer discovered a little bag of crack cocaine in his pocket.
