Suspect With Weapon Arrested Monday Near Courthouse

A police response was launched today after a person allegedly attempted to enter the McHenry County Courthouse with a suspected weapon, resulting in a brief chase and increased security in the vicinity.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 3:58 p.m. Monday, when court security officers stopped an individual at the courthouse’s west entrance after thinking they were armed. Officials claimed the suspect fled immediately, resulting in a brief foot pursuit near the courthouse.

Authorities said the suspect was caught just south of the courtroom, at North Seminary Avenue and Russell Court. According to law authorities, the firearm in question was seized shortly after the suspect was arrested.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public as of this evening. Officials praised the Court Security Officers’ quick response and thanked everyone who helped.

As of press time, no further information regarding the subject or the weapon in question had been disclosed. The inquiry is still underway, and authorities have not disclosed whether any charges have been filed.
