A sentencing hearing for a two-year-old case took place on Wednesday, July 9, at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. The incident occurred on August 19, 2023, along Highland and Water Street.
Nasir Johnson, then 16, shot and killed 21-year-old Victor Basmirez during an armed robbery that turned deadly, according to authorities.
Johnson was sentenced to 22 years in jail and 18 years of extended supervision after pleading guilty to first-degree reckless homicide. The second accusation of attempted armed robbery was dismissed.
“Words cannot make up for what I’ve done,” Johnson said in the courtroom. ” Every night goes by, every sun comes up, and there isn’t a moment in time where I wish I could take back what I’ve done. I do have regrets for what I’ve done. I do have a heart. I was just not thinking clearly at that time.”
