Two brothers were sentenced on Friday following their convictions in the 2022 deadly shooting of a WGN-TV security guard.
Dameonte Watson and Gregory Watson both received significant prison sentences for the murder of 35-year-old Salena Claybourne. Prosecutors claim the brothers killed a mother of two during a carjacking attempt in the 6700 block of S. Jeffery on Friday, March 7.
Claybourne was on her way home from her work at WGN when she stopped for gas.
According to authorities, at around 3 p.m., Claybourne was sitting in her vehicle when a black vehicle came up next to her and someone inside began firing. She received bullet wounds to her left shoulder and face.
Paramedics rushed Claybourne to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. She leaves behind two teenage daughters. Claybourne was the sister of a Chicago police officer.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office told WGN News that Dameonte Watson was sentenced to 30 years in prison for first-degree murder, with an additional four years for aggravated hijacking. Co-defendant Gregory Watson, who was also charged with first-degree murder, received a 60-year sentence.
The court rejected proceeding with either brother’s plea for a new trial.
