2 People Detained In Stolen Vehicle Amid Trump’s Executive Order Push For Safety In DC

Two people were arrested in a stolen car Wednesday as law enforcement ramps up patrols under President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14252, which intended to address crime and cleanliness in the city.

The order, titled “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful,” was signed in March and calls for a greater federal engagement in public safety in D.C.

Trump has indicated repeatedly that if local officials do not act, his administration will seek federal assistance.

“We could run D.C. flawlessly,” Trump said earlier this month, adding that he believes federal oversight would boost public safety and efficiency. While the concept may appeal to some critics of the city’s existing administration, local officials and legal experts caution that a full federal takeover would be both legally complex and politically explosive.

Officers of the United States Park Police (USPP) stated that the arrests this week were the direct result of proactive patrolling under the order.

“We remain focused on the communities we serve in Washington, D.C., New York, and San Francisco,” USPP said in an X post.
